TALKBOX

Interactive Installation

TalkboX is an interactive installation conceived for public space. From the outside, it resembles a familiar photo booth. Inside, however, visitors encounter a conversational system that responds to what they type. To initiate the interaction, a coin must be inserted. What follows appears personal, almost supportive. Yet the dialogue gradually and consistently shifts toward a recurring suggestion: if you feel unwell, treat yourself. Buy something. Consumption is presented as a simple remedy. The system mirrors the user’s input in its own peculiar way, creating an illusion of empathy while subtly steering the exchange. What seems like a private conversation unfolds within a visible, public apparatus—where participation itself requires a small act of consumption. TalkboX adopts the logic of advertising strategies. Just as branded objects transform individuals into carriers of a message, the installation turns conversation into a vehicle for a sales pitch. It promises well-being and happiness in the same manner products often do. Its ironic motto reads: "Buy Yourself Happiness.”
